He was, of course, once the talisman of English cricket and, when he helped win the Ashes for the first time in 18 years, he became a national hero in 2005.
Lawrance meets another woman, aged 54, through and asks her if he can come and see her.
The pair go out for drinks and then return to her home in Lincolnshire, where he asks if he can stay over.
“I think anyone's lying when they don't have a sense of fear of being hit by a cricket ball,” he says.
For him, though, fear can go hand in hand with excitement and he felt alive walking out to bat.
